About

Greetings! It’s Maria.

Maria Camia, founder of the MARICAMA brand and universe, is a Filipino American Director, Playwright, and Spiritual Visual Theatre Artist. She creates Puppet Theater, Visual Art, and Fashion with the intention to globally inspire healing and play. Her transformative storytelling leaves audiences rewired and enlightened to the infinite potential of the MARICAMA mindset.

She has performed original work for established theaters including The Henson Company, La Mama, and Chicago’s International Puppet Festival.

Overall, spirituality, mindfulness, and body awareness are the fundamental principles behind any work Maria creates and has inspired her journey of becoming an Introspective Hypnosis Practitioner. Through this application, Maria guides individuals on a voyage of self-exploration, healing, and cleansing. Her goal is to regenerate a reality of courageous action and deserving self-love.

Artist Statement

My work is a daily ritual of seeding useful imagination into a traumatized society.

Dedicated to transcending mental illness, for over twelve years now, I am creating Aricama, the spiritual /sci-fi universe of practice, play, and healing. This universe represents my relationship to my own body as it translates into colorful illustration, comics, and puppets made from canvas, acrylic paint, and recycled cardboard from C-Town. Practicing Vipassana meditation and guiding Introspective Hypnosis clients also inform my original mythology, playwriting, and collaborative mantra-pop musical compositions to culminate into gestalt theatrical productions. The sacrificed Babaylan ancestor awakens in me as I bridge the indigenous Filipino lineage with galactic futurism into theatrical play/musical productions, Aricama Light Language, social media, and fashion. My art is my political call to disconnect from technological deluge and to return back home to our bodies with more breath, more awareness, more fun, and more abundance.
